Vrbenské ponds

Vrbenské ponds are a nature reserve in the outskirts of České Budějovice with many forest paths which are great for cycling or a walk.

From Mrhal to Vrbenské ponds you can get by car or by bicycle. If you choose cycling, we recommend going through Hlincová Hora to Dobrá Voda and then continuing on bicycle path 1096 to Malše river, along it you have to go to its confluence with Vltava, along its left bank you have to continue to artificial channel České Vrbné. Here you turn left and ride through České Vrbné behind it you have to cross road E55 and in front of you will open a bird heaven

This cycling trip is longer than other which we told you about but there are almost no hills so it will not be more demanding than other trips.

Vrbenské ponds

Nature reserve Vrbenskké ponds was declared as one in 1990. It expands to 245,8 ha and is neighbours the city České Budějovice. From the city you can get there from a few roads, from housing estates Máj and Vltava or form the main road from České Budějovice to Hluboká nad Vltavou.

Its an ornitologic reservation which aspires to become a part of Natura 2000 project. The biggest ponds are Černiš, Domin, New Vrbenský and Old Vrbenský pond.On the way to them you can come across Dasenský pond near Dasné or Vavrák pond near Máj housing estate. If you like the walk you can get to Old Houženký pond, Old Haklovký pond and new Haklovský pond near village Haklovy dvory. All of the pond are home to many diverse species of birds, among them seagull has a special place and its screams will follow you for all of the walk. This bird is also the symbol of Vrbenské ponds
